2012 Focus titanium X headlight ballast query

Featured Replies

Hi all

My 2012 titanium x focus estate has an issue with the dipped bulb.

I've swapped bulbs between sides and can confirm the bulb is fine.

Existing ballast and bulbs are D3S.

I've bought a ballast that is marked D1S and D3S and fitted that on the existing cabling and no joy.

I've also tried a new ballast to bulb cable with no joy.

I've got a new power cable but the connector looks very different to where the existing one terminates, so not tried it and not confident with these things anyway!

I wonder, do I need a D1S bulb to go with the new D1S / D3S ballast, or should I get a straight copy D3S ballast and try that?

Failing all this, could it be something else that'll mean a new headlight at great expense?

Thanks folks

Here is a good video explaining the differences to D1 and D3:

You have to get an exact ballast as the one you have now on yuor car. There is also different output on the two different ballasts, i think the D3 has 45 watts and D1 is much higher. Do you have the ballast with two screws in two of the corners and one in the narrow opposite side?

Thank you Lars.  I have narrowed the issue down to definitely being the ballast and that I have obtained the wrong replacement.

Got a D3S ballast coming from Ebay, second-hand (used) for a small price, so will fit that and hopefully be back illuminated by the end of this week.

Hope it will work out for you!😀

Hi

Further to my post - I seem to have ended up with a ballast that has the part number 044663, whilst my original had 034663.

The lights fire up ok, but now I have a warning that there's an issue and the self-levelling isn't working.

Could this be due to the wrong ballast again and need the correct part number exactly?

Yes.
