Ford Focus 1.6 Ecoboost fault

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have the above car (2012) and it has a fault with the following symptoms.

- The car starts and shows the Stability control indicator (ESP) sign on the dash (yellow car with car tracks underneath) sometimes. Sometimes the car starts ok and the ESP indicator comes on during a journey. Sometimes the ESP indicator never comes on when starting or during a journey although this is rare. Once the ESP indicator is on the acceleration is sluggish. Put foot down and it slowly builds up speed with a lag after pressing the accelerator.

- Sometimes when starting the car the Engine dash indicator also comes on.

- When cold it sometimes starts up runs for 10 - 15 seconds then stops. If this occurs both the ESP indicator always lights and the engine indicator sometimes comes on. If this occurs after 2 or 3 starts it idles normally.

- I scanned the ODBII/ECU codes and it reported P008A, low pressure fuel sensor read low pressure. I reset it and this came up again but only after a week or so of running the car most days.

- I have changed the low pressure fuel sensor. The fault is still present.

- Very occasionally it stutters when driving. I caught this once while logging using the bluetooth ODBII adaptor. In this case the graph shows it showed that the fuel rail pressure dropped to 0 PSI during the stutter. Attached is an image of this plot.

I've tried a longer run on a motorway and the car ran for 45 mins or so at 70 MPH.

This has been going on for about 5 - 6 weeks now using the car most days. I guess it maybe the low or high pressure fuel pumps but if this were the case I would expect the problem to get worse as the pump fails, which it hasn't. I put it into a garage and they could find no problem with it as the problem did not show itself when they had it...

If you have seen these symptoms before and managed to fix it I'd appreciate your view on this.

Regards

Paul Austen

Use the software FORScan and a vLinker FS cable to read all of the Ford specific DTC's.

It is likely that you have a fault with one of the wheel speed sensors. OR you could have the infamous problem with the solder joints on the instrument cluster

Surely a 2012 will be a Mk3, so shouldn't be affected by that?

I've know vehicles up to and including 2013 models with the dry solder joint problems.

It is a MK3

I've changed both the low and high pressure fuel pressure sensors and the problem persists.

What DTC's does FORScan say are logged ?

I put the car in to a local Ford garage.

It took them a while but they found that the sensor on the Turbo was dragging down the 5v rail and this caused a range of faults reported by other sensors.
