Timing belt/water pump

Featured Replies

What have you been charged in general for a timing belt and water pump job on a 2.0 tdci? I done a test on who can fix my car site now known as My Car needs A for some quotes and this came up from Halfords I am shocked to say the least.

..... but you could always try and use your Ford Owners Club discount card and get 8% off 🤣🤣

Actually I don't think the FOC card works at the Halfords Autocentre.

They can 'Shoe' a Horse while eating baked beans 🤣

decent kit with all the belts, tensioner, idlers, water pump, antifreeze and thermostat (stupid not to when it this far apart) guessing £250 parts

4 hours labour at £110 a pop

plus flipping VAT

= not far off !!!

or pikey belt, leave the about to self implode water pump and well past sell by antifreeze and get it cross threaded with one tooth out by scratch your bumpers are us, for £300.   next month do the same job over, with the water pump and they can scratch the other bumper

= bargain

I wonder if that text is generic or whether they've actually included chain replacement along with belt and waterpump.  The chain has no recommended interval and wouldn't generally be replaced on this engine.

I've just tried to get quotes in my area but the 'Who Can Fix My Car' site is one of those annoying ones that doesn't give quotes without putting in personal details.

Tried Book My Garage instead but they don't include cambelt change on their list.

I did even know it had a chain and that is possibly what has happened. I will ask locally and see what they say thanks for checking.

The cambelt only goes around one of the camshafts on the 1.6 & 2.0 TDCI.  The second camshaft is driven by a chain from the first camshaft.

Personally I would also check the price at a Ford main dealer to give a base figure.
