1.5 Ecoblue Change Engine Oil Soon 3k Miles?

Featured Replies

Focus Mk4 1.5 Ecoblue 69 plate, bought March 2023 with low miles - 10,400. This one has the small sump - I always seem to buy cars which were made just before some useful upgrade took place! So oil change interval 10k miles.

But in October '23, the dreaded "change engine oil soon message" came up, 6800 miles after buying the car; the oil was supposedly changed prior to purchase. I thought maybe they hadn't reset the oil life, but to be on the safe side I changed the oil and filter and reset the oil life from the driver display.

But now the message has reappeared after only driving another 3300 miles! We do tend to do short journeys, but this seems excessive, to say the least. Can it be right? Given the price of 0W20 oil this could get very expensive....

I did read on this forum that there was an FSA regarding this, but when I changed the oil in  October '23, I got the oil filter from my local Ford dealer and asked the parts department guy to check and he said there were no outstanding FSAs on this vehicle. The only thing I am wondering though, is that others have reported that the reset oil life option is no longer available on the driver display after the FSA has been completed, yet it's still there on mine?

The less miles you do, and the more shorter journeys you make the more frequent the oil changes will need to be.

The car will know when it needs the oil changed and if it needs to be changed earlier than the service scheduled. Frequent regens or attempted regens can cause the oil to become diluted with diesel.

OK - thanks. I guess I'm just pretty surprised at such a short interval.

Maybe ignorance was bliss with previous models!

the other fun is the change in oil make up - with modern gnats p1ss low SAPS oils

they invented new 'better' oils (under some circumstances) - but these new world additives the emissions system pretends to need, degrade with time - the old High SAPS oils were basically indestructible and could be left there for years - then new stuff gives up after 2 years and you need to get it out of there....  to make sure you do as you are told, they then made wet belt engines that MUST have the later oils or the belt breaks down - but just in case you didn't buy enough ford high cost oil, the oil breaks down and the the belt degrades for another reason....

germans don't mind as they get paid enough to buy a new car / pay for high cost servicing
