Passenger wiper blade replacement fittings

Featured Replies

Hi,

I searched the forums but couldn’t find any similar problems. I’ve got a 57 plate Focus and am trying to replace the passenger side wiper.
I’ve bought multiple wiper blades but none seem to fit the attachment on the car. Without the wiper on there’s a thicker sort of dumbell shape rather than a thinner line that an A style attachment would fit. I’ve attached photos. I don’t know whether to try and pull it off (I’ve tried gently but don’t want to force it and break it). Or if I need buy some other adaptors to make more modern wipers fit? Thanks

I’ve tried to add a photo but it’s too large - any ideas?

Cropped it! This is the wiper with the old blade removed.

This is the old wiper attachment, it does pull off but doesn’t fit the modern wipers either.

Thanks for this but this is like the ones I’ve got, it doesn’t fit as the bit on the car wiper is too wide.

It clips on rather than going through the hole.

That's the genuine original blade that would have been supplied from the factory.  It should fit with the rubber sheath removed.

Thanks, can you clarify - is the rubber sheath the part that’s still on the wiper attached to the car (on the first picture) that looks a bit like a dumbell - should it pull off? Or is it something else?

my original wiper arm doesn't look like that ..the pin is straight.are you sure that your arm is off a focus?

I've never seen that rubber sheath before.  It must be part of an aftermarket universal blade kit.  So yes should just pull off and leave a bare metal spike underneath.

Be very careful with the arm once that's off.  I cracked the windscreen on my old Focus when the arm slipped out of my hand before I could get the new blade on.   The metal spike hit the screen and cracked it.

that pin on yours could be an aftermarket sleeve , the original pin is stell ..have tried to pull the "dumbell" bit off to reveal the original pin?

Can we see a photo of the fitting from the underside please ?

Ya see, this is why in over a decade, I have never used 'universal' fit wipers, they're a darn nuisance, and proper ones aren't really big money compared to other stuff that go wrong in a car!

Thanks, I’ll have a stronger go at pulling it off when I get home. I had a newspaper for padding but it kept blowing away with all the wind. I might try a blanket, thanks for all the tips.

Sorted! It came off with the pliers and then I could attach one of the wipers I’d already bought.

Thanks for all the help folks.

Picture of the sheath in case it’s useful for anyone else.
