Serpentine Belt broke and ended up in my Oil Bath?

Featured Replies

I was driving on the highway and I got a low oil pressure warning. I kept driving for about 2-3 minutes to get to a gas station and then it got picked up from there.

After they checked the car they said my serpentine belt got shredded and parts of it clogged my oil bath? I don’t understand how this could have happened.

My Ford Focus is fairly new with 70K Km from 2020

If someone could explain this to me and if it’s something really bad it would help a lot!

The only belt that is in the engine on a Mk4 Focus is the oil pump belt. This has the revised cam chain.

Did you have it serviced according to schedule with the correct oil and without engine flushes? Do you regularly do short journeys?

Low oil pressure from belt degredation is usually a symptom of the older wet belt engines, it's why it was switched to chain. We haven't seen much if any oil pump belt failures.

The term "serpentine belt" is normally applied to the external belt driving peripherals such as alternator. As Alex says, the only belt inside the engine is the oil pump belt which is just a short belt.

Sounds like poor description here - you need a better explanation.

I know of only one of the oil pump belt failure in the later chain engine.
