Front Left Audio Channel not working after Waterleak

Featured Replies

I have a 2016 ST-3 and believe its has the standard audio system (Tweeter next to the window and mid range driver in door)....

The car has a water leak at the moment on the front passenger side, which has been traced back to the windscreen. which has become totally unbonded at the top and is being replaced next week.

At the weekend it leaked so bad, that when I accelerated water poured out of the air vents so it got pretty wet inside.

Yesterday I thought the audio in the car was a lot quieter than normal and this morning realised that there was no audio from the Front Left side. It could be a co-incidence but I am willing to bet that its linked to the water leak.

what I don't understand is why the Mid AND Tweeter are not working when the tweeter is unlikely to have got wet.. I pulled the cover off the tweeter and it looks perfect.... If it was just the mid, it would make more sense...

I guess this implies that it could be the crossover.. or even just a wiring/connection problem.. Or it could be worse and a channel from the head unit (or Amplifier) is blown.

Before I rip into the door, does anyone have any thoughts about this?

How exactly is the standard wiring configured.. Is the cross over inside the door? Or is it under the dash?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/advice you have.

Check the wiring from the bcm as it is under the glove box and could have gotten wet

BCM? Sorry.. new to all this so not familiar with the terminology...

What does a BCM look like... Looking at the some pics on Google, it looks like a fuse box....

It is a fuesbox with a built-in computer !!

Body Control Module (BCM), very expensive to replace and very prone to water ingress 🙁

Incase anyone is interested... After having the window replaced the car started to dry out and to be fair in a matter of days, there was no obvious sign of any water ingress.

Once the weather improved my plan was to remove the door card and have a look at the speakers and also look behind the glove box as suggested

Every time I started the car, I always hoped that the issue would fix itself, but 5 weeks on it was exactly the same...... Until today.. I got in this morning and the radio was really loud.. And it was immediately obvious that the passengers speakers were working again.

The only thing that changed as that yesturday was quite sunny and warmer than it has been.. And I suspect inside of the car got quite warm, which could have easily dried it a little more.

What ever the solution, it seems to be working again, so I have to just assume it was moisture somewhere which has finally burned off.

I hope that this helps someone in the future. Cheers all
