Break pads and disk's replacement

Featured Replies

Having issues with frequent break pads and disk's replacement, it's the 2012 1.6 TDCI, disk's on front, drums on back, I've had the car a little over a year now and I've had to change the disk's and pads 5 times and now again this week for the 6th time, after a couple months after replacement I get a jidder in the breaks and once the jidder starts it doesn't be long getting a noise while it's doing this jidder then eventually pulling to the side, car still breaks will still be sharp but every uneasy and obviously when it pulls the handling isn't great, soon as this starts I have pads and disk's changed everytime, mentioned to mechanic and he's checked both calipers and said their fine, to me the disk's feel okay but I'm told will need to change them also due to possible warp, so I change them, to me this many replacements in this time frame is alot, I've had other cars that haven't come close to this many changes so soon apart, mechanic isn't very fussed, just says stuff like "hitting puddles while breaks are hot will cause a warp and this causes the jiddering", but 9 times out of 10 will avoid all puddles since summer but I'm still having the same issue, at one stage it was 2 months apart between getting them changed and then needing done again, that's when I had the calipers checked, this is a long post but I'm actually at my wit's end now with this car and the breaks, anyone any idea on what's going on or can tell me if this is a common issue with them?

On the understanding everything is in correct working order you need to check the front hubs for run out as well as the discs. Once discs are off check the hubs for run out

I have experience of this problem on more than just Focus.

Changing the discs suggest the problem is fixed but, when the discs "bed in" to the hub flange contour they become distorted if the hub is running out/distorted.

From experience I can tell you that I only tapped the kerb at walking pace on my new Focus ST and it distorted the hub ( found after fitting 2 sets of discs)

Also before fitting new disc ensure hub flange face is spotless/perfect
