Focus 2006 1.8 TDCi what should I look for

Featured Replies

So looking at a Focus mk2 2006 1.8TDCi on 100k, full service history.  Guy wants £1400 for it with a years MOT.  Anything I need to lookout for?  MOT advisory is corroded front subframe, but not weakened and minor oil leak at sump.  Only looking for a runner then scrap when MOT done.

Also looking at 2010 2.0 TDCi ZETEC estate on 95,000 which is £2,000.  Are these timing belts or chains?

I've still got my 2009 1.8 Duratec which is due MOT but it's on 150,000 and there's a blow at the flexi pipe and the clutch has a rumbling noise until I press the pedal then the noise goes so don't know whether to MOT or scrap it?

Has the belt been changed?

Make sure everything works

Hi mate, don't think so.  Guys saying he does all the servicing on his own as he's got his own ramp.  Said I am welcome to put it on ramp to have a look at oil leak and subframe, if I want?

Subframe change is quite a big job (If you can get one)

just another question if you don't mind.  What gearbox is in the 1.8 diesel?  Got the IB5 in my 1.8 Duratec and it's 3,000rpm at 60 mph which is a bit naff for long runs.  thanks

Both 1.8 TDCI & 2.0 TDCI use timing belts at that age.

(They also both have chains as well, but they are lifetime chains and not usually replaced)

Not sure, but not IB5 (MTX-75 maybe?????)

Cruising revs will be less in the diesel

Yes, 5 speed MTX75 for 1.6 & 1.8 TDCI.

2.0 TDCI gets a 6 speed gearbox.

Bar, Dave is right re revs.  I've the 1.8 diesel and cruising at 60mph she's pulling just barely 2k.

superb mate, only thing I don't like about my 1.8 petrol is it's screaming at 4,000rpm at 80mph.  Brutal on long motorway runs.
