Induction air duct loose or not?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

while removing the EGR (the plate snapped off on the highway and the car bogged down,..wouldn't start after)  on my S-max 2008, 140hp,

i noticed the induction air duct (hose?)  going from the air filter behind the engine is moving/ having slack. The metal "standoff" seems worn-out, as it's shiny when i move the duct away. You can alternate between the two pics to get an idea how much it moves....

The car has spent a good 162k miles on the road...(also battling a water leak)

I suppose it's not normal and the duct shouldn't be moving in relation to the engine block?

Thanks appreciate it!

It looks like that metal sleeve comes as part of the plastic pipe assembly and would originally have just been an interference fit.

I guess you could try gluing it back in.  Can't see that a small amount of movement there will do any damage though.  Just make sure the pipe isn't rubbing on anything.
