Firstly i am aware these engines are very noisy and ticky and rattly. Ive heard loads of videos on youtube and i know how they should sound. My car sounded just like the normal ones on youtube and ive owned it for nearly a year now. Its a focus zetec s 180. Lately i have gotten this ticking noise different to the injection and normal noise of the engine as ive never heard it before. On cold starts so left over night but also when i go on my lunch break at work so around 4 hours, i start it up and can hear a ticking/ knocking and it is quite quick. Its like a release bearing knock. It isnt the tranny as it remains the same foot on or off clutch. even once ive arrived at the shops (5 mins from work) i can still hear it. Its not until i drive a longer distance and the engine is properly warm (20-30 mins) where it goes. Wouldnt lifter tick go much quicker and sound lighter whereas this sounds like knocking. I did a service like 2000 miles ago with 5w-20 napa oil made for ecoboosts. Im at a dead end. I can hear it more from the right wheel arch so im thinking it may be a pulley clicking or maybe i need to reservice? Ive also heard about the purge valve but would that be constant? I think i could hear it also when i opened the bonnet right at the back of the engine sounded like it was behind it.

Sounds like the belt tensioner puller is on its way out
