P0340 + p0344 camshaft sensor

Featured Replies

I recently changed my engine in my 2016 1.0 Ecoboost for a working used one as I had the wetbelt issue. There was a p0340 (Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Bank 1 or Single Sensor) and p0344 (Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Intermittent Bank 1 or single sensor) codes on the car with the old engine. After the engine was replaced the oil light was gone but I still have these codes and car is running very rough and slow.

I swapped the the sensors Bank 1 and bank 2 but still have the same codes. What does this mean? Could it be a fault in the wiring to the bank A camshaft sensor? Or something else?

Just out of interest when you changed the engine did you also replace the turbo ?

Yes

Do you still have the old wiring loom from the old engine?  Sometimes oil can penetrate the electrical plugs through the sensors and cause damage inside them.

If it's running rough and slow then I'd recommend having the VCT (variable camshaft timing) relearn procedure completed.  I believe Forscan can do it.  Currently the VCT system may not be working correctly if it doesn't know the exact location of the camshafts.

I think the mechanic used the old wiring loom

I'll try the forscan method, I'll buy one off Ebay, can do it myself with a laptop? And if that doesn't work, will I need some work done inside the engine? Thanks

And how do I calibrate VCT in forscan? Is it self explanatory in the application or can you guide me? I've never used it before

It should be self explanatory.  Will be listed under service procedures.

Should be able to do it with any ELM327 cable but the V-Linker is recommended for use with Forscan now.

Yes, the cam sensor plugs will probably need to be cut off and replaced if they have been damaged by oil.
