removing diesel from tank

Featured Replies

I haven't been very active on here since my Mk 2 has been off the road and Mk4 is driving flawlessly (fingers crossed).

I am selling my Mk 2 for spares or repair and still have a nearly full tank of diesel which I want to get out (that nearly doubles the value of the car).  I have bought a 12V oil/diesel pump and saw this video where he disconnects the fuel feed line (about 3m40 into the video) to prime the system.  Does anyone know what size pipe that is - my 12V pump comes with a 6mm feed pipe so I probably need an adapter to fit the larger pipe on the car?  Or is there a better way of doing this?

Think it's 8mm but I'm not 100%.  When I drained mine i just found the fuel pipe in the engine bay and joined it onto another pipe with duct tape then into a 25 litre container.  Find the fuel pump relay and bridge the pins so pump runs when ign switched on.

Thanks.  I thought this engine doesn't have a lifter pump and so this won't work if you try to extract the fuel upstream of the filter, that's why I bought the 12V pump.  And I believe that's why you have to hand prime to fill the filter and get rid of air bubbles like in the video.

I just saw that the outlet of the fuel filter allows a 12mm tube to be fitted so thinking I might connect there and draw the diesel through the filter and out to the pump and container.  I'll give it a go later and see what happens.
