Are Mk3 rear door speakers the same as Mk2?

Featured Replies

From looking at ebay listings, the Mk3 rear door speakers look very similar to the Mk2.

Will they fit into the cutouts on the Mk2 rear window regulators, and are the hole spacings and connectors the same?

There don't seem to be many Mk2 rears listed for sale, probably as they are all already burnt out. All of the ones I tested on a few Mk2s at a breakers were.

If the Mk3 ones are no good, I am waiting for someone to scrap a Mk2 Ghia or Titanium. These are supposed to have better quality speakers.

They're not exactly the same.  Though they may still fit.  By Mk3 speakers had become fairly universal across many Ford models.

Do have to be careful with Mk3 speakers though.  Most Mk3s came with the basic 6 speaker setup - even the Titanium - which means the rear door speaker is 'full range'.  On cars with the 9/10 speaker premium system (generally Titanium X) the rear speakers are woofer only.
