cigarette lighter socket

Featured Replies

hi

how long does the cigarette lighter socket stay live when leaving the car. Does it stay on or go off after a certain amount of time.i ask because i have a 2.5 amp accessory plugged in to it. Could this drain the battery when left connected to the socket after leaving the car overnight or longer.i have a 2024 ford fiesta active x

thanks turbocat

Usually 18 to 20 minutes after the doors are locked.

Or, if you have a 2005 Focus, the darn thing never goes off, flippin' stupid design 😂

That is a very power hungry accessory. Have you actually measured the current with an Amp meter ?

If it is a Dashcam then it may well have a 2.5A fuse fitted but it will actually only take 0.25A when in use.

Yes.

They take about 0.22A (220mA) so not even 10% of the fuse value.

I found an ‘undocumented feature’ with my 12v socket. It normally stays on for 30mins after i leave the car. However, for the first time ever as my battery was not getting fully charged, I manually turned off the engine stop start using the panel switch, only to find the 12v socket turns off immediately now. It does not do this if my car decides itself to turn of stop start automatically.

Anyone else seen this ‘feature’?
