2010 Galaxy 2.0 TDCI diesel MPG

Featured Replies

Afternoon everyone,

just bought my new (it is quite old but for me it’s new!) car, the Ford galaxy 2.0 TDCI diesel, I love it to bits, every aspect of it is perfect, I have however felt a tiny bit let down as online it says these should average 55mpg combined, and I’m struggling to get 40, I am driving extremely conservatively so I assume I am just not fully utilising the turbo and diesel aspects of my new car. I came from a 1.25 petrol NA - so this drives very different. I watched a few YouTube videos on how to get the best fuel economy but they suggest asking around in forums for car specific answers, so I was wondering if anyone could give me a rough guide of how far the pedal should be down / what gears you use to get up to speed or in different driving areas. Any advice would be appreciated hugely and I have a lot of time to read through so don’t hesitate to spill your heart out over it!

cheers

Not a chance !!!

If you get 42MPG then I'd say you're doing well.

That engine will only just about manage 50mpg average in a Focus.  I'd be impressed with anything over 45mpg from a heavy Galaxy.

What was the 1.25 Fiesta averaging on your journeys for a direct comparison?

Ah okay, I was pushing my 1.25 petrol fiesta to 40mpg when internet said it should do like 35

Which websites are you using for MPG out of interest?

35mpg average would be very low for a 1.25 Fiesta.  I almost averaged that in a 2.0 ST Fiesta!

Evening Jak,

I have a 2017 Galaxy (Powershift) which I think has the same/v similar 2.0TDCi engine as the unit used in the 2010 model. I tend to average c. 43mpg in almost all conditions according to the onboard figure. This might sit at 50-52 on a long motorway run but day to day almost always 42.5-43. Just to give a bit of a benchmark in case that's helpful.

Sounds about right.
