Mk3 focus 1.0 ecoboost vs 1.5 diesel

Featured Replies

Hi all, just some advice needed I got a mk3 focus 1.0 ecoboost an thinking of selling it an buying another mk3 1.5 diesel, mainly because of the wet belt issues they have. Can someone confirm there's a dry belt on the diesel models an also am i reading to much into this an is it a wise thing to do? Many thanks

What sort of journeys do you do? You don’t want to swap a wet belt issue for a dpf issue.

It's a range of journeys really, an drive on dual carriage ways daily, but I see your point. Also is there dry belts on the diesel engines?

Thanks for clarification on that, any other things to look for when buying a 1.5 deisel focus?

These are very reliable tbh.  Not to be confused with the later 1.5 EcoBlue in the Mk4.

Not much to check as such.  But the failures we see occasionally are the electric fuel pump, low pressure pipework/filter leaks and thermostat.

Dry cambelt is recommended every 10 years or 112,500 miles.

Don't know whether you've done much diesel driving but it can be a "Marmite" thing. Certainly try and get a test drive before deciding. Review here:

Yeah I've done a fair bit of driving diesel vehicles in my job, but it does make interesting reading obviously I'm not looking go silly speeds (no 18 anymore) lol just an everyday driving car

I’ve literally collected a mk3 1.5 diesel this morning. Great car so far with full history. Purchased from a Ford main dealer so has warranty with it. Well impressed so far and being the titanium x it has all the extras.
Averaged 58mpg on my journey home and it has good power even from the 1.5 diesel engine.
Go for it if you can afford to and buy the best you can with service history. £0 road tax is a bonus 👍🏻

I was sceptical at first, some people complain of flat spots in 1st gear and lack of pulling power but mine seems fine. I’d say go for it.
keep us updated if you do buy it
