Can I swap wheels

Featured Replies

Hi have 2014 tdci fitted with 215/55 tyres some are specd with 205/55when you look online . Could I fit my old focus 205/55 wheels onto this car?

Also I'm guessing there must be slight width difference in rims but could I fit 205/55 tyres onto my alloys which are fitted 215/55

Yes you can swap wheels.  I kept the 205s from my Mk2 Focus and fitted them to the Mk3.

Be careful with the wheel nuts though.  Depending on how old your Mk2 was, it may have used the old style wheel nuts which are not compatible with the new wheels and vice versa.

The rim width will be stamped on the back of the alloys, measured in 'J'.  They are different depending on the design of the alloy, not specific to the age of Focus, so you would need to check your wheels specifically.  There are online charts that show which width of tyre can be fitted to which width of rim safely.

That's a different code.  Probably part of the manufacturing code.

It'll be something like 6J or 6.5J on those wheels I think.

205 should be fine on a 7J rim.

Out of interest what website did you get that information from

Question.

Swaping/changing wheels the front to the rear and rear to the front is generally required or suggested?

For example after 20000 miles or km? or after 1-2 years?
