Hi all,

My partner just tried putting the handbrake on and we got the following message.

The handbrake will now not go on, despite using the button repeatedly.

We are now left with our car with no handbrake on.  Has anyone had this before?

thanks in advance.

Dave

Automatic or Manual gearbox ?

Check the vehicle battery voltage at the terminals with a multimeter.

Thank you, manual gearbox.

After checking the battery voltage you need to use FORScan and read the DTC.

It's possible that one of the calipers has failed, but without a code it would just be a guess.

Could be seized mechanism on rear calipers, if you can see the mechanism, grease it.

Disconnect the battery negative cable for 10 minutes then start the engine, press the brake pedal down as hard as you can and pull on the handbrake and hold the switch in the on position for 6 seconds, then release the handbrake and hold the switch in the release position for 6 seconds.

See if that cures it.

If not, you probably need a new caliper (or strip and unseize)

Thanks all.  According to the mechanic it was the switch which is now replaced.  Wait and see I guess….
