Transmission Temperatures

Hi

I am getting “Transmission Temp to High” at around 82 Degrees Celsius (180 F), but I have also noticed that when the Gearbox temp is around 65 Degrees Celsius (149 F), the Gearbox oil Cooler is way to hot to even touch!

Can someone shed some light on the temperatures that the Powershift Gearbox should be running at and where does it actually get its temperature readings from?

Does this sound like a faulty cooler?

Gearbox oil was changed in December 2023.

Thanks in advance

Is there still seafoam in the gearbox?  Did you remove that amount of oil to balance the level, or is that in addition to the correct amount of oil?

Thanks for your reply.

Hopefully the oil should be all balanced as I asked the garage when changing the oil in December to put the seafoam in mid-refill, before checking the level hole.

OK.  Hopefully the level should be correct then.  Must admit I'm not a fan of keeping seafoam in there permanently.

I can't see any externally replaceable temp sensors on the parts catalogue so would assume there are sensors inside the mechatronics unit.

Thanks for your help, the cooler is only about £40 so I will replace it anyway and if no cure I will get them to recheck the level.

Is there anything I need to know about replacing the cooler itself?

Don't think there's anything special about replacing the cooler.  Just take care removing the pipes as it's easy to break the plastic connectors.  You will loose a little coolant and gear oil so be prepared to top those up afterwards.
