Hi. I wonder if anybody can help me. I have a Mk5 fiesta which I purchased back in early 2008. It was first registered in 2007 which makes it 17 years old. In the last year or so I have noticed an issue with the dashboard background lighting not always coming on when the car is started and its dark outside.  To begin with the fault would be intermittent and after a few minutes of the car idling the lights would come back on, but as the issue has got worse I am now experiencing a second issue where the dashboard background lighting will go off mid drive without warning and take a while to come back on.

 Just to clarify the issue is not affecting any other lights in the car or the LCD display in the middle of the dashboard.

I have been advised by a local garage that this is a known issue with this particular model of fiesta and the only solution is to replace the complete dashboard display unit. 

I am just wondering if anybody else has experienced a similar issue and how they rectified it?

    First point is that a 2007 Fiesta is a Mk6.5 in the UK. 

    Instrument cluster can be refurbished for about £85

    I have a ford fiesta activ 2021 and the instrument display is not lighting up when my outside lights are on
