Boot Sensor MK III 2015 (65)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I do not know much (at all) about cars so please forgive me. For a number of weeks I have been having issues with my car alarm going off randomly so I have been trying to figure out what is causing it.

Occasionally, when I have been driving I have been having a "boot open" warning on my dashboard. I assume the alarm issues are related to this!

I have had a scour around on the internet and have come to the conclusion the sensor(?) is faulty or there is a loose/damaged wire somewhere. I saw a video for a similar issue on a Fiesta whereby the guy cut two of the wires and soldered them together to trick the car into thinking the boot was always closed... even when it was open or simply just disabling the warning.

I have taken the paneling of the boot today and have found the connector. However, the wires are different. I tried removing the connector but in my wisdom did not think about how I would open my boot thereafter! I managed to connect the connector by crawling through my boot again.

Anyway, I have included a picture of the connector - which (if any) wires can I cut to achieve the above?! I have tried tracing the wires to find any obvious damage but can't see any.

Thanks!

Personally, I would do some more investigation before trying cutting & joining wires to fool the system.

Have you looked at the wires inside the rubber umbilical between the body & tailgate?

These wires flex each time the tailgate is opened or closed, and are a common failure point on some cars.

Joining wires to fool the system will come back to bite you in the @rse and make a fool of you.

The signal form the boot lock switch is used for a number of things, but one important thing is to tell the central locking when the tailgate is open. So if for example you have the tailgate open and lock the car the central locking won't try to lock the tailgate until it is closed.

Is the tailgate on the car actually closing fully all the time?

If there are adjustable stops/rubbers these can be used to reduce the amount of effort needed to get the tailgate to fully close - if no adjustment there then moving the metal latch striker inwards or outwards can give similar adjustment.

Note though you can end up with either the tailgate closing but not sealing well to the rubber seal, or taking a very hard slam before it will close. So before doing anything, make some marks so you can get the striker back to its original position if needed.
