Focus MK3 2.0 TDCI - intermittent fault P003A

Featured Replies

I have an intermittent fault, P003A - Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control A Position Exceeded Learning Limit.  So far I've checked the intercooler pipes and vacuum pipes, couldn't find any leaks, before I strip out the turbo (which looks like a ball ache), has anyone got any ideas or had a similar issue?  Because the issue is intermittent, it's making it hard to determine the cause, I removed the pipes from the boost solenoid, but cannot replicate the problem.  It happened yesterday again, I left it for an hour and the fault cleared and hasn't come back yet, my next approach is to use forscan to check live data to see if that shows anything out of the ordinary.

Hi. Check my post about  P1102,  p003a,  p02fa. Could be similar. I had to clean PCM pins which is under left wheel arch.

Could be vacuum solenoid for turbo boost or vacuum lines.

Thanks, I'll take a look.  Could see any issue with the vacuum lines, but will check again.  I did take so live data yesterday (while no fault present) and will compare when the fault comes back to see what's different.

In my case when it did happen, EGR stops working and turbo variable vane position actuator. Out of interest what's the maf reading when engine not running?

Did check it when it wasn't running, will check tomorrow and see what it is.  I drove about 20 miles this morning, was fine until about half a mile from work.  Had cleared when I went out later and was fine on my way home this evening, I really hate intermittent faults!

I put some turbo cleaner in the tank on Monday evening and apart from Tuesday I've not had the error since and I've driven about 100 miles since then.  So it could be well be a build up in the turbo that's causing the issue, I'll see how it goes, but it may mean I need to either remove and clean the turbo or replace it.

How many miles on the clock?

98,000

Any update or still all good since turbo cleaner? And if all good, what cleaner did you use, so I could give it a go with my galaxy which is having the same problems. Cheers.
