Engine Malfunction, ESP indicator and Engine Light

Featured Replies

I have a 2009 Ford Focus, 80,000 miles and recently passed its MOT and full service.

Recently my car has been randomly showing me an "Engine Malfunction" whilst driving followed by "Reduced Acceleration" then the ESP (traction) light comes on my dashboard. Normally i have turned the engine off and on again and the car runs fine with no messages or warning lights until it happens randomly again.

This morning the same thing happened, i went to pull over to turn my engine off and on and then the engine light came on. I turned my engine off and it wouldn't start up again. Waited 20 mins and then the car started with the engine light on. There has been 1 occasion before where it wouldn't start in the morning, again waited 20 mins and started fine.

The Engine light is still showing.

Please could someone advise.

Strong possibility it's the common cracked solder joint problem, have a read (my own repair service): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314393033915

Try bashing the dash above the instrument cluster when it's misbehaving. If this has an affect, making it start when it won't, then this is positive confirmation.
