Ford focus 2016 eco boost clutch

Featured Replies

This is an intermittent problem that happens say every few weeks when pulling off in 1st gear there is a humming / rubbing noise its very annoying the car has plenty of power changing gear is fine no judder no slip no rough idle etc i have read online it could be clutch whoop or something millage is 60000 i have also turned off the hill start assist , it can be worse on inclines but it happens then doesn't do it for weeks also read it could be dirt on the clutch plate. ? any suggestions much appreciated thanks

Does sound like clutch whoop.  Not actually a fault, just annoying.  As it's only happening occasionally and there are no other issues with the clutch function, I wouldn't go the expense of replacing it personally.

ok many thanks what causes it and is there a fix ?

It's basically caused by the composition of the friction material and the wear pattern.

The only fix is to replace the clutch.  But there's a high chance of it starting again within a few months.  So I wouldn't spend the money on it until there are issues with driveability personally.

its driving me insane is it something that definatly isnt damaging the clutch or gearbox is there anything i can do myself to make it quiet ?

The only thing you can do is either replace the clutch or put up with the noise.

As long as it is just clutch whoop, it's not doing any damage.  If you're concerned, take it to a transmission specialist and let them have a test drive to provide a real world opinion.
