MK4 focus - Rear dash cam and 12V socket

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Currently looking at installing a rear dash cam and 12V socket in my MK4 focus.

Is there a fuse box in the rear of the car or engine bay/passenger footwell only?

In my MK2 focus, I was able to wire in a 12V boot socket as the factory wiring was in place already, is it the same in the MK4 or will it need a new line running?

Thanks 👍

Looking like I'm running the rear dashcam from the footwell then 😂

4m cable should hopefully cover it.

With the 12V socket, take it no factory wiring there unlike the MK2?

Hatchback MK4 by the way

I installed a rear dashcam using power from the rear wiper wiring.

Ended up removing it in the end as it disruptted my DAB signal.

What did you use instead mate or completely removed the dash cam?

Hi @smeders it would be helpful if you could update your profile to show the new vehicle.

I would think that @MarkRS9 means that he removed the rear dashcam completely.

If you mount the rear dashcam on the rear glass screen then it will kill the DAB signal (ask me how I know ? 🙄). You can however mount it on the top edge of the tailgate (inside of course) as far back from the glass as possible. I have installed several like this now and not had ant further problems with the DAB radio signal.

My rear dashcam is on the rear glass and no dab issues. It is an extension of the front cam though, rather than being separate.

I should add that the quality of the cables makes a big difference. Properly shielded cables with ferrite cores helps prevent DAB interference. Assuming the cam itself is also designed well enough not to leak lots of EMF.

I had a cheap dashcam that had been on my previous car and decided to try it, but as I said caused problems with the DAB signal so done away with it.

All installed today,

Both dash cams off fuse 3. No interference with radio with a nextbase kit to front dashcam and one off Amazon for rear camera (tried on rear window and rear window trim and no issues with signal on either)

Thanks for all your help!
