Why does Skype update so bloomin' often??

Featured Replies

I use Skype on a daily basis on my laptop. Every 2 or 3 days, when I open it, it goes through a software update process. I have gone through every setting but can't find one that allows it to update on it's own time. On my Android, in years I've never been prevented from opening it straightway and been stopped because it needs to update itself. Is there a way to do same on my laptop?

dont use it, more of a WhatsApp guy

If you are using Windows 10 or 11 you can use the Microsoft store version and that will auto update when you are not using it. Like how smart phones handle updates

Otherwise you’ll be using the old Win32 exe and  it can only check, download and install updates when it is running. It doesn’t know otherwise. Do you have it running when the computer starts? That might allow it to auto update when you’re not using it.

I just checked and yes, Skype is enabled to initiate at start up. Oh well, I'll just have to wait another few years till I start using Windows 10 LOL

My daughter has finally found some space in life and re-setup her main Pc as her laptop has died, its on my operating table. She's on Win 7 am expecting the tech call to upgrade. Had to walk her thru turning it on last night as the BIOS had glitched. Pull the battery, wait 10 minutes, fit a new one and wait for it to sort itself out. Least we sussed out the password to her Microshaft account so i can save the laptop drive if i need to.

Messenger is owned by Facebook.  Or 'Meta' as it's called now.

Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp & Instagram all owned by Meta.

I use none of those, nice to know I'm boycotting the correct company 🤣
