Did all Mk2s have a plastic engine under tray?

Featured Replies

My Mk2 has the plastic so-called banana under tray at the front bumper.

Ebay also has some listed which fit under the engine itself. Mine didn't have one of these when I got it.

Someone else at work has a Mk2 and that doesn't have one either.

I can see that some would remove the under tray to make servicing easier.

1.6 petrols didn't come with one.  They needed all the weight saving they could get!

It was mainly used on diesels for better aerodynamics, shaving a few CO2 off of the factory figures to get into the cheaper tax brackets.

I'm not sure if other petrol engines did or didn't come with them.  It is easy to tell whether one was originally fitted by the plastic nut inserts that the tray screws into.  They get chewed pretty easily when the covers are fitted.

My mk2 1.6l petrol has one under the drivers side which has cracked and split? Came with the car when I bought it. Do you know if I can just take it off? Is a cracked under tray dangerous?

Is it this one?

That's just fitted to give the belts a bit of protection.  It's not critical so you can remove it if you like.  If it's still secure then a crack is fine.  If it's loose enough to fall off then that could be dangerous.

That's the one! I had to snap off the bit on the right of that photo so it wasn't resting on anything. The left half of that is still securely attached. Might have to look at unbolting it

Am I the only one who has a completely blank image? If I right-click and select "Open image in new tab" it's still blank and the tab says image info is png (1x1 pixel).

Is this a peculiarity of Firefox?

Yes.  I seem to remember you had the same issue with one of my cut & paste ebay pictures a few weeks ago.  They work for me on both Edge (laptop) and Chrome (phone) so I would assume it is a Firefox issue.

Possibly 🤔

All looks normal to me. Using Windows 7 laptop with Firefox 👍

Interesting. After closing Firefox for a while and then relaunching it appears as a link. When I hover over the link I get a popup "Enlarge image" and when I click on it I get a black page with an icon in the centre. I click that and then a new window opens with the image. Alternatively if I right-click the link and select "Open Link in New Tab" it opens with the image immediately in the new tab.I seem to remember this happened last time so there must be something a bit peculiar about my installation.

I'm running Windows 7 and this is my Firefox version. Does it match yours @unofix?
