Mk2 - Gearbox Breather? - Location / Stowage

Hi does anyone know what this part is and what it does?

Looks like a gearbox breather hose?

Where should it be located / stowed to also?

It also appears the pipe is split at both ends where it goes into the spigots / attachments. Will this cause an issue?
