Featured Replies

hi guys

few months ago, one of my tail light had gone so i replaced it, the screws i took out was rounded off so i didnt screw it all the way down incase i couldnt get them out. been meaning to ask on here what the screws are called.

anyway it has been raining hard and noticed the boot carpet was slightly wet, im guessing its because i didnt tighten the screws in.

could anyone tell me what the screws are called so i can order them please?

sorry wrong post

The inserts for the taillight screws should be watertight even with the screws only loose or not fitted at all.

Worth checking the rubber cup the locating stud fits into but often see that the foam seals around the screw inserts simply rot away so may been sealing up again with silicone or similar sealant. This is a very common leak path for water getting into the boot, comes through where the plastic trims are that the parcel shel clips into

sorry so you saying i should put some sealent around the screws after i have screwed it in?

You’d be best putting sealant around the inserts with the lamp assemblies removed - a lot harder to get it in the right place once you’ve refitted the lamp

Thank you I think I understand. So I take the lights out and where the screws goes in, that's where I put the sealant around it?

Yes that’s it

thank you again, will have to find some silicone or sealant now, do you happen to know of one?

Lots to choose from - several topics on here have covered it.

as examples there’s Tiger Seal as. PU type sealant then in lot of cases I’ve listed used silicon instant gasket that can be bought at Halfords etc
