Timing belt disaster / new engine required

Featured Replies

Good morning all,

I have a 2010 diesel SMax titanium in Pearl white with 130k miles on the clock and love the damn thing. Unfortunately driving home the other day and timing belt snapped which looks like it’s going to need a new engine !!!

Im at a loss with what to do. The car is in good condition and worth at a guess between 2-3 grand.
I would really like to keep it and am thinking of going down the reconditioned engine route.

Any advice on this ? Is it worth doing or would you just scrap the car ?

Its doing my head in trying to work out what to do so would love some advice please.

If this is the 2.0 diesel then it's a very common engine, used in many different cars, with few internal faults.  Should be able to find a good used one to drop in.

Great thanks, are there any decent companies you know of that do reconditioned ones or you recommend just getting one from a scrap with rear and damage etc

i don’t really know where to start looking.

I can't recommend any specifically unfortunately.  I'd just Google 'Reconditioned 2.0 TDCI engine' and see what comes up.

There are plenty of used ones on ebay around £500-£750.  That's the way I'd go personally.  You will need to check your engine code first.  (It's 4 digits on the logbook)

I'd expect a reconditioned engine to be £1500+.

If you have a trusted garage, they probably have regular contact with a local engine supplier.

I would get the head taken off first you might not need another engine just new valves and head gasket it’s worth getting it checked ???

Pretty sure the DW10 snaps rockers and occasionally cams.

Can usually get away with new belt, tappets and rockers.
