2017 Focus 3.5 Boot Lid Switch Issue

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Recently, my '67 plate Titanium X Focus' boot swich has become unreliable (i.e. failing to open the boot when pressed) but the double-press on the keyfob works fine (except if someone else is in the driver's seat with the ignoition on).

So, my question is this.  As the car has a rear view reversing camera, is this a simple DIY job (if so, what parts do I need) and if not what sort of cost am I looking at at a Ford Dealer and what do I tell them so they know what the issue is?

Thanks in advance,

Zaph

Failure of the tailgate release handle is extremely common.

If you have the genuine factory fitted reverse camera that makes replacement a bit harder as you need a replacement handle with a hole so you can transfer the camera over.

Thank you for the helpful reply - much appreciated.

Yep, the camera was factory fitted (I believe it was standard spec on the Titanium X).

I'll have a look to see if I can pop the handle out form the outside (without having to remove any interior trim).

Assiming it just pops out on the clips, is it simply 'Plug & Play' there is no re-programming of the car's ECU to 'accept' this foreigner?

Regarding the camera unit on the old handle, is that just a plug-in unit?

Cheers,

Don

Just unclip the camera from your old handle and it clips in to the new one. Nothing to programme just unplug the handle and plug the new one in.
