Turbo or split pipe?

Featured Replies

Hi all just looking to see if anyone has had a similar problem, the turbo transmission is flagging up on the diagnostic, I’m suspecting it could be a split pipe rather than the turbo itself. I did find a hose at the back of the engine that wasn’t connected but not sure if it goes to the heating matrix any help please. Thank you.

does anyone also have an exploded diagram of the engine please it’s 2010 model TDCI 2.0

I've spent a few minutes looking at that second picture but still can't see the wood for the trees.  Where abouts is it?

If it was a disconnected heater matrix pipe, there'd be coolant coming out of it.

It doesn't look wide enough to be a boost pipe either though.

I guess it could be a heater hose from the fuel fired aux heater if a previous owner has bypassed and drained that?

Hope this helps

Thanks Sean.

I'm afraid I still can't work out what it's for though.  It's definitely not a boost pipe.  Fairly certain it's a coolant pipe but not sure what for.  Thought it was EGR cooler but that still looks attached in the final picture.  I'd have to stick with a fuel fired heater for now.  Do you know if there's one fitted?

You can get exploded diagrams on https://www.catcar.info/ford/?lang=en but be aware that there are two different 2.0 TDCI's used in the 2006-2015 Galaxy/S-Max.  If you put your VIN in, it should only show suitable diagrams.

The boost performance fault could be a red herring.  If the MAF isn't reading correctly then it could make the MAP readings appear wrong.  (The way the PCM tests boost performance).  However you are right that generally it will be a split pipe or a faulty actuator.  Turbo failures aren't common.

Unrelated to what you're looking at, but is this a hole, a crack or just something funny with the photo ?

I think it’s just the angle of the photo Unofix I’ll give it a double check in the morning I put the revs to 2000rpms and was checking around all the pipes but couldn’t seem to find anything I’ll get some brake cleaner spray on the MAF sensor tomorrow see if it could be that.
