Coolant leak near thermostat housing

Featured Replies

Evening All,

I had a split thermostat housing about a year ago on a '17 Galaxy 2.0TDCi(150) Auto which lost about half a coolant tank in a day or so but was replaced. Since then, I've still got a slight coolant loss, topped up perhaps 2-3 litres in the year since the thermostat housing was replaced. I went back to the garage that fitted that just to check there wasn't something needing tightened up etc but they say the housing itself is secure. They couldn't tell where the leak was coming from but said they could see a 'weeping' using a camera but it seemed 'further back' in the system that the thermostat but would require some stripping out etc to investigate which they didn't seem keen to do!

Before I try and book in somewhere else for more digging, any suggestions as to what might be causing leakage in the same area but *not* the housing itself? There is a little area of bracket or similar just below and to the right of the thermostat housing which is where I first saw coolant puddling when it cracked. There is still a small amount accruing in that same spot. Have attached a photo from when the housing was leaking but highlighting the area where I'm still seeing a little bit gathering.

Any ideas as to what I might be looking at?

Cheers,

Sandy

That needs sorting before it lets go.

I wonder if there's a slight crack in the body??
