MK2.5 Focus Titanium | Wheel Wobble on Rough Roads

Featured Replies

Hi All!

Ive owned this car for coming on 2 years and I’ve had several issues with steering wobble, there were a few things causing this issue but I’m now at a point were nothing seems to be fixing the issue.

List of things repaired:

- New Lower arms (Ford OEM)

- Both driveshafts replaced (one before I bought the car and one in my ownership)

-Alloys repaired as they were previously buckled, these were put on the front.

-Set of 4 Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2 Tyres.

-Road force balancing on all 4 wheels.

-Dog bone engine mount replaced.

-Hunter 4 wheel alignment done in last month.

A driveshaft was causing a lot of vibration during heavy acceleration, replacing this has fixed this.

Recently had car inspected on front end, absolutely no play in any of the bushings, shock absorbers in good condition and springs in good condition.

Said garage didn’t have access to their shaker plates as they’re booked out for MOTS but will be looked at shortly. They did say this may point out an issue.

The wheel doesn’t shake like an out of balance wheel as it is very dependant on road surface and is a lot worse on concrete/scarred roads.

I understand that a little vibration is completely normal on rough roads but this is side to side shake that’s quite disconcerting.

I also get bump steer over small bumps and potholes that turns the wheel on the side of the car that the bump was hit.

Car drives completely straight doesn’t tramline at all on crowned roads but does get blown around quite poorly in cross winds, especially compared to other cars I’ve driven.

I’m also only on 16 inch alloys and on stock suspension so I’m not expecting that to be the issue.

If anyone has an ideas or similar experience I’d really appreciate the feedback!

I would suspect faulty or incorrect front shock absorbers fitted. Could also be incorrect suspension coil springs.
