Mk2 - Passenger Footwell Damp

Featured Replies

Can anyone confirm why the passenger footwell is damp?

Drivers side appears to be fine?

I lifted up the floor mat and could see condensation and then but the back of my hand against the floor carpet and could feel it was damp / saturated.

First test is to confirm whether it's rain water or coolant.

Assuming it's just rain water then the options are passenger door seal, windscreen seal or cabin air intake seal.

Didn’t smell sweet like coolant.

Not sure how I check if it was coolant if I’m honest?

I’ve not removed any panels where the water ingress is coming from.

I have used the AC recently so could be condensation from the drain pipe if it’s missing or not routed correctly?

Coolant should be pink, so if you soak some up with white tissue you should be able to see some colour in it.  Some people would taste it but can't say I'd recommend that lol.

Not sure what you mean about removing panels.  Only have to open the passenger door to break the seal on that if it's old and crispy and not been opened for a while.  The HVAC inlet is covered by the scuttle panel, so you'd need to remove the wipers and the scuttle to check that.

The AC condensate drain on Mk2 is on the drivers side so I'd sort of ruled that out.  However, if it is blocked then the HVAC box can fill up and then leak though the first available gap, often something like the pollen filter cover.
