Need advice: Ford Focus. 1.0 turbo 100 Cv 2012

Featured Replies

Hey folks.

Salutations from sunny Spain.

So our current car is in bad shape so i have been shopping around and today i this Ford Focus. 1.0 turbo 100 Cv from 2012 with only 58k on it,got the paperwork to prove those 58.000km are real.

Plus the only owner lives in my same town and i talked to her and she bought the car new and has been the only owner.

Now i have to say that buying a car for us will deplete all our savings, pops going thru dialysis and i take care of him full time so i can't have a proper job,do some random work as a solicitor but yeah we make ends meet.

Been looking around for info on the engine and some websites mention some problems with the coolant tube (bad quality) and some other things.

Seeing as everyone here is an expert of have a vast knowledge of Ford engines i was hoping to get some feedback on the 1.0 turbo 100hp motor from 2012.

As i said my pops and me can't really afford to make a mistake,we need a car so i can drive him back and forth to dialysis and then you know shopping for food, doc appointments and what not.

Thanks in advance for the replies, you folks have a nice day :)

Has the cambelt been replaced?  If not, then this is not the car for your situation in my opinion.

Ah ok yeah i have like 17 windows open and i just watched a video where they explained its a cam belt but ''bathed in oil'' says you gotta use 5W-20 oil.

Yes that's correct.  And it's the main problem with the 1.0 turbo engine nowadays.  The belt degrades and blocks up the oil ways, damaging the turbo and vac pump, before eventually teeth start coming off the belt and the engine ends up as scrap.

Honestly, as you need a reliable vehicle and won't be able to cover the cost of any large repairs, I really would advise against the 1.0 EcoBoost engine.  If you do want one then make absolutely sure that it's had the wetbelts replaced.  In the UK this costs around £1000-£1500 so don't just take someone's word for it being done.

If you could afford a Mk4 Focus (2018 onwards in UK, may be different in other countries) then those ones are fitted with a chain, but it's a totally different engine to the one in the 2012 models.
