Focus MK2.5 power steering hose.

Featured Replies

Hi

I bought a power steering pump as other one went, mechanic tried to fit hose to it but wouldnt fit was about 5ml difference so broke the hose. Ive read a lot about there being issues with these focuses about this. My main issue now is getting the right part, ive asked the Mechanic for the number on the hose he will tell me tomorrow. Im more concerned with getting the right one and newer one that doesent have the problem, so the one at the mechanics might be wrong anywway.  Most local car part shops dont seem to stock the part even the place I got the pump dont. I cant seem to find anywhere that can search with the reg, Ive only found some on Amazon and Ebay. See below. Is the a ford part number site or somewhere I can get the exploded view pics with part number on? Being a MK2.5 also seems to makem it harder to find it seems compared to MK2.

Thanks for gettin back to me apprecaite that. The pump, the pipe and belt was all replaced, but still getting a wurring sound ive read on here could be the fluid, but my concern ity could be the pump again and or something else, it gets louder the faster I go especailly over 40mph any ideas?

Thanks in advance

If it gets louder the faster you go, that's probably a wheel bearing.

The power steering pump runs in sync with the engine, so that should be loud at high RPM even when you're moving fairly slowly in a low gear if that is worn.

(Could also be a dodgy tyre, driveshaft or gearbox if it's louder at high speed rather than high RPM)

Thanks for quick response....

Actually listening again its doing it at low speed and revs, get a wurring then gets louder and louder from about 5-10mph. As i said I only changed pump and belit recently could they have gone again or ive been sold faulty eqiupment or could it be anything else?

If there was any debris left in the rack or the wrong fluid was used then it is possible that the new pump has been damaged.  Or it might be a low quality replacement that works fine but is just a bit noisy.  Or it could be something else entirely.  I think the best thing to do would be to take it to another garage for them to listen and provide a second opinion.

Thanks everyone for their replies. The issue was unfortunately bad mechanics I think or bad at this particular job. Ive recently moved, so after th union nut kept falling off, trying two different mechanics, I travelled back to them and they sorted it, so far so good. Something to do with fusing it together  im not sure if this is a sealent of some sort? And then being patient with it? He told me previous mechanics had tried to bend it to fit and cut holes in pipe or something.

I previoulsy bought a new pump and had to replace it again though so a bit expensive. Wondered if I could take the old one back but guessing the previous mechanics damaged it while messing with the pipe?

THe lous noise it turns out was a wheel bearing that had seemed to have happened at the same time so was harder to diagnose. hanks again for your help.Maybe this can help someone else.
