Mk2 focus 2.0 tdci, troubles starting.

Featured Replies

Hi all, hoping somebody can shed some light and point me in the right direction with a problem I’ve been having with my focus.
I bought a 2009 focus 2.0 tdci around 4 weeks ago, everything was fine for the first week, since then it’s been a nightmare.
There are times when the car just won’t start, I’ve dropped the oil, put new oil, air, diesel filters on, bled the air from the lines even put a new camshaft sensor on it this morning, still the same issue. I bought a obd2 reader and the code U0140 came up - lost communication with the BCM. Went and bought a new module, still won’t work.
when the car does start it runs ok, doesn’t stall, no apparent misfires, plenty of power no delay in acceleration, maybe a little shakier whilst idle than the usual is all I notice. As soon as I park the car up when the engines warm, it won’t start again, soon as it’s cool it will start (although sometimes takes 2 or 3 attempts.)
has anybody experienced these problems before? Thanks in advance

Generic obd readers are unlikely to show all the diagnostic trouble codes, you need Forscan (free program) on a windows laptop with a compatible lead like vlinker fs.

Two common faults that generate’u’ codes are water ingress into the BCM Fusebox and dry solder joints in the instrument cluster.
you could try slapping the dash above the cluster and see if it reacts.

I’ve seen that the cluster panels are a bit naff on these models. I also noticed the ground earth to the frame of the car was severely corroded so I’ve replaced that, reset the ecm so we’ll see what happens. Cheers pal 👍🏼
