Automatic lights retrofit

Featured Replies

I’m thinking of retrofitting automatic headlights for my car. Can anyone tell me what I need to get in order to do it? I have a vague idea, but I wanna be 100%. Thanks

Buy a Focus 2012 model and then fit the whole car to yours. 🤔

I doubt that your GEM will support automatic headlights.

I have a 2017 focus MK3, should’ve made that clear, apologies

The sensor needs to come from a MK3.5 not a MK3

There is a guide on here on how to upgrade to auto wipers (same thing)

You may need to copy the asbuilt files from a MK3.5 that's near the same spec as your, but with AL/AW to get the config right (using FORScan)

If you are a base model, you may need a BCM, but if you haven't got X4 Electric windows that will also cause you problems

Get the feeling that this would be far more trouble than it's worth, after all, we're talking about automating the simple manual rotation of a switch LOL

I wouldn't bother unless you know what your doing wiring wise. Just a headlamp switch, rain sensor, gel pad, clip to hold rain sensor and the wiring from rain sensor wired into existing bcm /connector. Then programming .

wont he need a new windscreen too ...   you do on the mk2 because one silly 10 pence bonded plastic bracket is a different shape

on a mk 2

new windscreen
new wiring loom up the A pillar
new GEM (high end one with the pin outs for the other loom)
new light switch with auto pos
new interior mirror (as it fits on the other screen alongside the sensor)
the light sensor

Nope, MK3/3.5 doesn't need a new  windscreen .

Was one of the first mods I did on my MK3 back in 2016 ISH.

Some cars had the bracket but a blank for the sensor
