Ford Focus Mk3. Intermittent issue starting car

Featured Replies

Hi I have a 61 plate Ford Focus.

I have an intermitent  issue where occasionally the car won't start when you turn the key.

You turn the key and all I hear is a humming sound, nothing from the starter motor. Then I'll remove the key lock the car and come back after about 10 minutes. Then it will work.

This would happen very occasionally, but lately seems to be getting worse. I've had a new alternator, battery and ignition coil but the problem persists. I havn't changed the starter motor yet, could it be that?

Ignition switch wear?

Clutch pedal switch on the way out?

Perhaps it would be wise and cheaper to use FORScan (with a vLinker FS cable) and see what DTC's there are. On a 2011 Focus I'd suspect that you have the dry solder joint problem with the instrument cluster. No point in continuing to guess, it gets very expensive very quickly. Use FORScan and see if there are DTC's beginning "Ux-xxx" Lost communication with.......
