Featured Replies

I’m looking at buying a ford focus estate active x

I test drove a 1.5 diesel but didn’t think there was much power too it

I’ve seen a really nice 1l petrol for sale I don’t normally go for petrol but is this more powerful ? Also what’s it like for fuel

am I best getting a Diesel or a petrol

What age are you looking at ? Will it be a Focus Mk3.5 or the Mk4 ?

If you want power then either go for the 2.0 Diesel or 1.5 Petrol.

The 1.0 Ecoboost in an Active X estate could be either 125bhp or 155bhp.  Would need to know the reg to confirm.  My 155bhp Active averaged around 45mpg and did have enough torque to rival a diesel.

Rough 0-60 comparison:

1.5 diesel - 120bhp - 11 seconds
1.0 petrol - 125bhp - 10.5 seconds
1.5 petrol - 150bhp - 9.5 seconds
2.0 diesel - 150bhp - 9.5 seconds
1.0 petrol - 155bhp - 9 seconds

My 1.5 Ecoblue used to average about 57MPG, normal driving

Hi

Won't the diesel be a stronger engine. I have 1.5 TD 2017 is fast enough really and pulls strongly. Less stressed as engine. I get 60mpg all day long.

I'm wary of the 1.0 three pots, overtuned so when driven quicker the mpg will be less than 40 mpg if your lucky, you'll never get near the claimed mpg. I've heard three pots have to inject fuel for cooling and to prevent engine knock. Just very over stressed engine.

They're stratified charge engines, see this Wiki explanation. They use direct injection into the combustion chamber instead of into the inlet manifold and the idea is to allow them to run on a leaner mixture for higher efficiency.

Don't forget the 155 (and some 125s) are also mild hybrid.  The generator takes some of the stress away from the engine.  The engines are also built to withstand the pressures of direct injection and turbo boost.  The idea that small 3 cylinder engines are all automatically 'weaker' simply isn't true nowadays.

The 1.5 3 Pot Dragon Engine in the Focus has both Direct and Port Injection. the best of both worlds.
