After market Cat

Featured Replies

Hi, as anyone had a BM cat fitted to there car, mine is a 06 focus 1.6 ti-vct, my local garage wont fit an after market cat as they cant gaurtee how long it would last, i had an oxygen sensor fitted but its still showing the P056 and P0156 fault, lamba fault and its wiring, (it was an aftermarket one) now they are saying it could be the cat (ford wants £1200 for a genuine one)

Thanks

I've fitted a few BM cats, but not this particular one.  They are poorly made and don't fit perfectly.  But they're so much cheaper than the originals they definitely do still have a place.

I guess it depends how much longer you're expecting to keep a 2006 car on the road?  Got to do a lot of miles to make it worth £1200.

i want to keep it as its only done 84k, cambelt done last year, always serviced, i was hoping the Lamba sensor would have solved it, the emissions only just scrapped through its mot

would a failing cat cause a fault code? would it be worth trying a genuine sensor first, thanks

Sorry, didn't check the codes last night.  Those codes both relate to lambda sensor wiring.  And both sides of the sensor, the 02 section, and the heater section.  It would be odd for them to be triggered by a faulty cat in my opinion.  Personally I'd fit a genuine sensor first.  Even if it's a used one - as long as it came from a good running car.

Did the garage definitely change the correct sensor?  With twin cats I'm not 100% sure which will be bank 2.  The easy way to test is to run the engine with one sensor unplugged and see which fault code gets triggered.  The sensors do appear to be sided, with different part numbers for left and right.
