Couple issues after replacing lower arms

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Just replaced both lower arms and suddenly my right wheel keeps squeeking, I have got new pads on so no idea what it could be. Also the middle red light on my dash keeps flashing.

Any help please

Many thanks guys 😊

Has wheel alignment has been done? What red light looks like? What brand brake pads did you fit? Some cheap ones can squeek

Thank you for the reply

I'm getting the wheel alignment done on Thursday as they are busy. I bought some pagid ones for £40.

The red light is between the temperature gauge and petrol gauge.

Is the wheel squeeking because it needs alignment?

The light might be alarm has been triggered.

The wheel squeaking it's hard to say without listening but most likely new brake pads

Did you torque the bolts when the car / arms were at normal ride height?  As in, where they'd be sitting when the weight of the car with the wheel on the road would be?  If you've torqued on the jack / axle stands, possibly the bush is sqeaking when the suspension travels up and down when going along the road.  If it's from the new pads, some rust from the disc has got trapped between the disc and new pads when you've changed them and is scraping the disc.

I put the car on axle and used the jack to put under the arm so in a way I torqued it at normal ride height.

I'm getting the alignment done on Thursday so hopefully might be that.

Forgot to ask under what condition it squeaks?

It goes quiet then very loud. I'm almost certain it's when I turn the wheel left and right but sometimes when it's straight.

It is definitely coming from the right wheel.

I would take take brake pads out checked if it's installed correctly. Also check the wheel bearing.

Worth mentioning stainless steel "clips" (if you have them) which holds brake pads in place. If one of them dislocated and touching brake disc that's will make some noise.

Alignment won't cause a squeak.

Check the disc guard behind the disc.  Could be slightly bent or have a stone trapped in it.

Thank you guys

Il check it over later.

final update:

the led never came back so im leaving that for now.

it was the squealing noise that i had to get rid of.

i jacked the car up and turned the wheel by hand and something was defintely catching so looked behind and saw this:

the little metal bracket protecting the ball joint was touching the disc. i took the picture after i bent it back a little.

many thanks to the people who helped me 🙂

you were right about a guard, im guessing its the guard for the ball joint, that is what im thinking.

unless that is teh disc guard like you said?

just 1 last question if i may.

im guessing i havent damaged my new disc, there is a faint line where the metal was ctaching it but the brake pad should get rid of the line wont it?

That would have been my second guess.  Looks like you don't have any disc guards fitted.  They may not have been fitted from new on that model, or maybe a previous owner removed them.

Yes that'll be fine, I wouldn't worry about a faint line on the disc.
