Share Dealing Scam - National Grid

Quite a few people seem to have National Grid shares - perhaps as a legacy of the privatisations of the 1990s, perhaps because it's regarded as a safe bet and a steady earner.

Anyway, a friend of mine who has some shares took a phone call yesterday, supposedly from an investment house in New York, and offering a ludicrously high price for the shares. All he had to do was provide the usual bank details, etc.

We checked this out and found the same scam has run several times previously. It's pertinent at the moment because National Grid are in the process of doing a rights issue to fund the expansion of the grid as we've discussed on the "Energy Chat" thread, so it might fool a few people into thinking it's in connection with that.

Similar scams arise all the time of course and the old saying "If it sounds too good to be true it usually is" still applies! As the Sarge says:
