Esp c1288-e0

Featured Replies

Hi all, after reading hundreds of posts about this error i have a question .

Ford focus 2008 2.0 tdci titanium

Could air in the unit throw this code ? Had never seen this esp light on unless inselected it in menu. Then my clutch slave cylinder failed along with clutch master cylinder. All these were replaced and for 1 day all was fine . The esp light came on and has never gone off since . Forscan gives the c1288-e0 code . It has been tracked since and all wheel speed sensor are showing as good.

Any idea if it could be air as a abs module is worth more than the car

Thanks

Kieron

I don't know, but would suggest a proper service bleed for the brakes is worth trying.

Will give this a try as soon as i got time and someone available to help . What i dont underatand is no abs light if all controlled from same pump ?

It'll need to be a service bleed using Forscan.  That electronically cycles all of the valves in the pump to make sure there's no chance of any air left in the system.

It is odd not to have the ABS light as well, I can't answer why that's not on.

If it turns out the ABS pump is faulty, there are cheaper options than brand new from a Ford dealer.  Focus C-Max ABS Pump repair (ecutesting.com)

Have forscan and drove with it on and all wheel sensors where registering . The light is on pernament and doesnt even go off when ignition is turned on . Traction control is definately off as i can feel the fight for grip in wet. I will download and update abs unit firmware next week as maybe it got corrupted when battery was removed for clutch change but i doubt it very much did .

Will take it for a pre mot before i replace abs mudule if it turns out to be that as it a old car and could be a short lived investment. Have saved link as much cheaper than ford part and the one i  Found. a new one from another supplier for £400 .

After mauch testimg and a pre mot. Have decided it is the abs module faulty. Booked in with controlunits of exeter for a remove repair and refit . Only 2 hours total . £289 plus the dreaded .

Bonus couple hours out house in exeter :-)

One of my sons had an issues with the plug into the abs unit on an 06 ST. Somewhere in the engine bay. My other son had the instrument cluster solder issue on his 08 ST. Have you tried whacking the dash above the cluster? Different symptoms but worth ruling out I think.

Might of tried bumping the dash a little to hard on occasions. Nothing but nightmare with it since i had it . One more wack wont hurt :-)

directly above the cluster . Should have recorded multiple ‘U’ codes in the OBD if reading both can busses and not just abs code.

Only code i have on forscan is c1288-E0 . Not sure i understand about both buses.

Issues all solved now. Took car to controlunits near exeter. They stripped repaired refitted and flushed the brake system in 2 hours . No more lights and a new mot .

Happy days
