Strange Noise

Featured Replies

I’ve been having a few issues with my focus some I’ve got sorted others not so. The most recent one is the car not starting I get a Transmission malfunction and a strange creaking noise from the passenger side door area when attempting to start the car. Does anyone know if this is separate issues or the same problem any help would be massively appreciated

The car is 2009 Focus Style 1.6

thanks in advance.

You need to read the DTC with FORScan to get the Ford specific codes.

Is it manual or auto?  There's no TCM on a manual, so this fault is usually a red herring, often caused by a dodgy cluster.

Passenger door creak could be a few things - ABS self test (under bonnet), GEM relays sticking (under glovebox) or the door latch mech sticking in the door.

Tried that mate, it’s not reading or connecting to the car. I tried FORScan on another Ford vehicle to see if I had installed it incorrectly but it connected to the other vehicle no problem at all. It’s the grinding noise at the passenger door when turning the key that’s annoying.

It’s a Manual. It only starts to make that noise when the engine is attempting to start.

I'm going with dodgy cluster or GEM then...or both.

In theory, the ABS self test shouldn't happen until 8mph.  Door latch shouldn't be trying to lock/unlock while trying to start the car.  So I reckon the noise is coming from the GEM under the glovebox.  You would have to check that though.  Not something we can confirm over the internet.

Have you tried another OBD2 reader on the car?  The socket fuse may have blown if no OBD reader can connect.

I’m hoping it’s the cluster, that seems an easier and somewhat cheaper fix I haven’t tried another OBD2 reader I’m not back home until Thursday due to work I have a Launch OBD2 but was recommended that using FORScan was better so I’ll hook that up when I get home.

Thanks Tom 👍🏻
