Focus mk2 gearbox knocking

Hey, I've got a knocking noise coming from around the gearbox area. When driving the knocking is consistent and increases/decreases at the same rate of speed. I've managed to figure out while under the car rotating the driver side driveshaft it's coming from gearbox area. Does anyone know what is likely to be causing this issue please. Cheers guys.

    Inner cv joint possibly. 

    Kind of a tack tack tack noise as a tripod inside inner joint.   worse on full lock in reverse is normally an outer.

    Treforest area. Turning doesn't make any difference to the noise. I've taken the driveshaft out and it seems to be okay. Any idea if there's anymore I can do at this point to try diagnose the issue? Cheers

    Sounds like it might be the diff bearings failing.  If that's the case, the gearbox needs to come out and either have the diff rebuilt or fit a second hand gearbox.
