Rear Tail Light Chip Repair

Featured Replies

So I chipped off the far left corner of my rear tail light, the edge closest to the rear door. I have the chip that fell off and was wondering what suggestions anyone might have about what to use to "repair" it as best I can. Its only about 4-5cm long and not that bad but I know its there....

Was thinking some strong glue and the a small bit of lens tape over it for added support and seal?

Thanks in advance!

Just use an araldite type glue, Gorilla or such like. I wouldn't bother with the tape, you'll only draw attention to it and you'll fail an MOT.

EDIT

Just noticed you're in Dublin so you'll have the NCT (not MOT), have just checked and rear lens broken is a potential fail. Need to check locally how strict that is, and if a repair is acceptable.

From what ive read up on its mainly major cracks or holes where white light is visible. The chipped off bit is right alone the passenger side edge of the tail light, imagine the filler cap from the other side, just where that part of the light meets the body beside it. No light coming out whatsoever. Id say itll pass NCT with no issue but if not salvage yards are plenty here so itll be a quick replacement and straight back for a retest. Clear glued it back on with some near invisible lens tape over it so seems to have done the job.
