Wheel caps

Featured Replies

Hi , help / advice needed

Replacing brake pads and noticed that wheel nuts had caps on. How can I get these off please , as I was unable to get them back on using the bigger socket that got them off initially.  Thank you , Matt ( focus mk3 st3 by the way)

If these are the Ford nuts with the chrome caps then the 'caps' are not intended to come off, or be removed.

It is a known problem that the wheel nuts "swell" making it very difficult to remove the nuts with the normal size socket. New Ford nuts no longer have the chrome cap because of this issue.

Thank you

You'll need double ended socket 18.5 / 19.5

to get the damage or swollen ones off. Got mine off amazon. Good job i checked before i got a puncture.

Hi, whilst checking my new acquisition I came to the conclusion that there is no locking wheel nut removal tool. Can any comment on the possibility of a dealer getting hold of a new new key if given the reg number?

Thanks

Anything is possible!  But probably not that.  The wheel keys weren't linked to the reg.  They just come with a code card that should be kept with the handbook etc.  Ford may not help unless you have the code card.

Some places can decipher the code from a very clear top down photograph of the locking wheel nut on the car.

Zero chance. No records are kept of what locking wheel nut is fitted to which car by registration number.

All you need to do is take some good close up photos of the locking nut and then check out the many companies online who offer a replacement service simply by sending them the photo.

For example: https://www.lockingwheelnutkeys.co.uk/

A breakers I use has a plastic tray full of Ford locknut keys to try until you find one that fits. I think they charge £2 each to buy the matching key.

There may be somewhere local to you that does similar.

Hi thanks for all your replies, There are no breakers near me any more, they have all shut down because of all the legislation. Gone have the good days when you could walk around and find what you may be looking for.
